About the Employer

The Orange County Department of Education (OCDE) serves some of Orange County’s most vulnerable student populations and provides support and mandated fiscal oversight to 28 school districts serving more than 600 schools and approximately 475,000 students. In addition to providing direct instruction to students through its own alternative and special education programs, OCDE administers an array of programs and services that are critical to the operations of local school districts and community colleges, facilitating professional development, legal guidance, payroll, career and technical education support, high-speed internet access, Local Control and Accountability Plan assistance and approval, resources for families, and student enrichment. Job Summary

The Orange County Department of Education is seeking an experienced and student-centered leader to serve as Principal, Alternative Education. This position oversees alternative education school sites, providing leadership for instructional programs, school operations, staff supervision, and student support services. Alternative education programs serve students with diverse academic, behavioral, and social-emotional needs by providing supportive, individualized learning environments designed to promote engagement, growth, and successful outcomes. The ideal candidate is a collaborative administrator who is committed to fostering safe learning environments, building strong community partnerships, ensuring program compliance, and advancing student success through effective leadership.

Requirements / Qualifications

Education and Experience: Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: • Master’s Degree in education, behavior management, education administration, or a related field and; • Five (5) years of experience including two (2) years of administrative experience in a public-school setting. • A valid California credential authorizing service in a public school program. • A valid California Administrative Credential.
