Instructional Aide & Extended Care Assistant (10-Month Position) Golden Hills School – Junior Kindergarten through 8th Grade Position Overview The Instructional Aide & Extended Care Assistant at Golden Hills School supports both the academic day and after-school program, helping to create a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment for students. Working under the direction of certificated staff and administration, this role provides instructional support during the school day and supervises students in the Extended Care program in the afternoons. Hours may vary and are as assigned. Primary Responsibilities Student Support (School Day) Provide one-on-one and small group instructional support to students Assist students in understanding and completing classroom assignments and activities Adapt materials and instructional approaches as directed by the teacher Support language development, including receptive and expressive language skills Reinforce learning concepts through guided practice and skill-building activities Assist students in utilizing appropriate resources to meet academic goals Classroom Support Assist with group lessons and classroom activities Monitor and support students during independent work and supplementary assignments Provide assistance with individualized instructional materials Support classroom routines and maintain an organized learning environment Behavioral & Social-Emotional Support Reinforce student academic and/or behavioral plans as directed Support the development of positive social and interpersonal skills Observe, record, and help track student behavior and progress Provide positive redirection and support student engagement Recess & Lunch Supervision Supervise students during recess, ensuring a safe, inclusive, and engaging outdoor play environment Maintain active supervision of students, promoting positive behavior and safe play Oversee lunch distribution and support students during mealtimes Maintain a
Requirements / Qualifications
Qualifications Education and Experience High school diploma required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree preferred Experience working with preschool, elementary, or middle school-aged children in a school, after-school, or similar setting preferred 12 semester units in ECE preferred or willingness to complete. These units usually include child growth, child/family/community studies, and program curriculum. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Strong interpersonal and communication skills Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, staff, and families Courteous, professional demeanor with strong judgment Ability to follow directions, reason logically, and manage multiple priorities Detail-oriented, organized, and reliable Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive situations appropriately Commitment to fostering an inclusive, supportive environment Alignment with the mission and values of Golden Hills School Physical Requirements & Work Environment Ability to stand, walk, sit, and actively supervise students for extended periods Ability to lift and carry up to 10–30 pounds Ability to assist with classroom and program setup and cleanup Ability to work in a dynamic environment with frequent interruptions and varying conditions This dual-role position is essential to supporting both the academic and extended day experience at Golden Hills School, ensuring students feel supported, engaged, and cared for throughout their entire day.
