The Reading Specialist provides intensive, evidence-based reading instruction aligned with the California Dyslexia Guidelines and SB 488 literacy standards to students with complex learning profiles. This role conducts diagnostic evaluations, helps writing legally compliant IEP goals, and delivers specialized instruction using Structured Literacy frameworks (e.g., Orton-Gillingham, Wilson Reading System). Key Responsibilities Direct Instruction & Intervention Deliver explicit, systematic literacy instruction using Science of Reading (SoR) methodologies aligned with the California English Language Arts/English Language Development (ELA/ELD) Framework. Tailor reading strategies for students with disabilities Adapt literacy tasks for students using Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) systems or those with complex motor, behavioral, or cognitive needs. IEP Compliance & Data Tracking Administer diagnostic reading assessments (e.g., CTOPP-2, Woodcock-Johnson, GORT-5) to identify specific learning disabilities, including Dyslexia and related processing disorders. Write SMART IEP goals tied to California Common Core State Standards (CCSS) and present performance data during IEP team meetings. Monitor student progress toward IEP goals using CBM tools (e.g., DIBELS) and maintain compliance with California Education Code and IDEA timelines. Collaboration & Assistive Technology Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively Partner with Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs), Occupational Therapists (OTs), and Education Specialist Teachers to integrate sensory, motor, and speech goals into daily literacy routines. Recommend and implement Assistive Technology (AT) accommodations (e.g., text-to-speech, screen readers, digital graphic organizers) per IEP specifications. Resource Specialist Stanbridge Academy, a special educattion school, is seeking a resource specialist for grades 7-12.
Job responsibilities include individualized academic support for students in grades 7-12, one-on-one academic assistance, identification of tools and techniques to achieve learning goals, collaboration with faculty to assess and evaluate students' needs, development of individualized educational plans for students (formal IEP's as necessary), set student learning goals and evaluate progress, coordinate standardized testing.
