Job Summary

Teaches one or more classes in physical education to pupils in grades TK-8 and assists in other school programs as assigned. Also develops in each pupil an understanding of the relationship of good body function and exercise; motivates each pupil to cultivate the physical fitness, hygienic habits, and good social and emotional adjustment; discovers and develops talents of pupils in physical achievement; to develop strength, skills agility, poise and coordination in individual, dual and team physical activities and sports, in accordance with each pupil's ability; establishes good relationships with parents and with other staff members. Also responsible for Athletic Director duties.

Teaches knowledge and skills in physical fitness, health education, rhythms and dance and individual, dual, or team sports to pupils, utilizing course of study adopted by the Board of Education and other appropriate learning activities.

instructs pupils in citizenship, basic communiction skills, and other general elements of the courseof study common to all teachers, as specified in state law and administration regulations andprocedures of the school district.

Works cooperatively with teachers in planning a balanced physical education program, adapting daily schedules to acconomdate weather conditions and and to provide time for changing clothes, showers, instructions, exercise, and sports activities.

Analyzes, demonstrates, and explains basic skills, knowledge, and stratagies of forms, sports, games, rhythms, and fudamentals of body movement.

Provides individual and small group intsruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil, to the extent feasible.

May teach one or more classes of adapted physical education for the students medical problems. Teach one or more classes in interscholastic athletics (boys or girls).

Provides appropriate safety instruction and makes safety checks on equipment and field areas to insure the over all saftey of pupils.

Maintains surveillance over storage and use of such items as schoolowned uniforms, equipment, and supplies to prevent loss and abuse, working through student monitors when appropriate.

Establishes and maitains standards of pupil behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive enviornment in the physical education areas.

Evaluates each pupils growth in the phyiscal fitness, and in physical skills and knowledge. Assesses each individual's contribution to the performance of the group in team sports. Prepares progress reports.

Maintains professional competence through participation in in-service education workshops and clinics provided by the district, and/or in self-selected professional growth activities.

Selects and requistions uniforms, equipment and instructional supplies, and maintains required inventory records.

Communicates with parents and teacher on the individual pupil's progress.

Identifies pupil needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve health, attitude, and learning problems.

Cooperates with school administration in providing assistance with PTA meetings, rallies, assemblies, and interscholastic athletic events.

Supervises pupils in and out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day.

Particpates in curriculum and other developmental programs within the school of assignment and/or on a district level. May teach under modular or flexible scheduling plans.

Performs basic attendance accounting and business services as required.

Shares in the sponsorship of student activities and participates in faculty committees.

May plan and coordinate the work of aides, teacher's assistants, and other paraprofessionals.
