About San Domenico San Domenico School is a K–12 independent school located on a 515-acre campus in Marin County. Our expansive campus features an on-site trail network, providing a premier environment for mountain biking. About the Role The Assistant Athletic Director works closely with the Director of Athletics to help lead and strengthen San Domenico’s K–12 athletics program. This is a broad, hands-on role combining program development, athletic administration, coaching, and daily operations. The Assistant Athletic Director will take particular leadership in Lower and Middle School athletics, help develop and implement strategies that strengthen student-athlete participation and retention from Middle to Upper School, support the continued development of athletic performance and coaching programs, and help ensure the effective operation of athletics across the School. The position also plays an important role in department-wide communication, scheduling, event management, and compliance and serves as a visible point of contact for coaches, student-athletes, and families. The Assistant Athletic Director will actively advance San Domenico’s mission and foster an athletic culture grounded in competitive excellence, sportsmanship, student development, and the School’s core values of study, reflection, service, and community. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Develop and implement strategies to strengthen student-athlete participation and retention, with particular attention to the transition from Middle to Upper School. Requirements / Qualifications
Qualifications: Education and/or Work Experience Requirements: Bachelor’s degree and at least 3 years of experience in athletic administration or a related field. Proficiency with Mac, iPad, Google Drive, and MS Office Suite. Support the continued development of athletic performance programming, including strength and conditioning, injury prevention, and age-appropriate physical preparation. NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) certification or comparable training preferred. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate young athletes. Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and occasional weekends for athletic events. Valid California driver’s license required (with a clean driving record). Current CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain before the season starts). Desired Skills: NFHS coaching certification is highly preferred. Experience working in an independent school environment. Strong organizational skills for managing rosters and match reporting. A commitment to fostering a welcoming, inclusive environment for athletes of all backgrounds.
Compensation: The base salary for this role is $75,000–$80,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications. The position also includes additional compensation for coaching assignments and requires coaching at least one Middle or Upper School team during the school year. Depending on the number of coaching assignments, anticipated total annual compensation is approximately $85,000–$95,000.
