Sparrow Academy Job Description for Teacher Assistant / Aide / Paraprofessional / School Aftercare Work Days: 186 Work Hours: 6-8 hours daily, typically 8:30-3:00 or 8:30-5 or 10:30-5:00, depending on the needs of the school. Occasionally, there may be opportunities for additional hours. Starting pay: $20 per hour Work Location: Sparrow Academy, 5150 Wilson Street, La Mesa, CA 91942 We are currently hiring for 1 positions. This position would be a typical paraprofessional position, providing push-in service minutes to students with IEPs, supporting with recess supervision and other duties similar. Paraprofessional — Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Support students individually and in small groups under the direction of classroom teachers, special education staff, and school administration.
  2. Provide academic support in areas such as literacy, mathematics, written work, organization, and task completion.
  3. Implement accommodations, modifications, behavior plans, and instructional strategies identified in students’ IEPs, 504 Plans, SST plans, or other support plans.
  4. Promote student independence by providing the least intrusive level of support necessary and gradually reducing assistance when appropriate.
  5. Support students with emotional regulation, sensory needs, transitions, communication, and positive participation in the school day.
  6. Use Positive Discipline, restorative practices, and relationship-based strategies to respond to student behavior calmly, respectfully, and consistently.
  7. Maintain awareness of student safety and provide active supervision during classroom instruction, recess, lunch, arrival, dismissal, transitions, field trips, and other school activities.
  8. Support inclusive participation in classroom lessons, artistic activities, movement, outdoor learning, festivals, assemblies, and other elements of the school’s Waldorf-inspired program.
  9. Prepare or organize instructional materials, visual supports, sensory tools, and other resources as directed by the teacher or special education team.
  10. Collect objective data related to student academics, behavior, participation, communication, or progress toward IEP goals.
  11. Communicate relevant observations and student needs promptly to the supervising teacher or appropriate school staff.
  12. Maintain professional boundaries and protect the confidentiality of students and families at all times.
  13. Follow teacher and administrator direction while using sound judgment, flexibility, and initiative in responding to changing student needs.
  14. Participate in staff meetings, trainings, professional development, and student-support meetings as assigned.
  15. Follow all school policies and procedures related to student safety, mandated reporting, emergency response, attendance, communication, and professional conduct.
  16. Perform other related duties as assigned in support of students and the overall school program.
