General Job Description:
Responsible for the coordination or for assisting with the coordination of Mater Dei Catholic girls basketball program. This includes teaching, coaching, instructing student-athletes and performing other duties necessary to the development of players and teams, which demonstrates the skills and values of Mater Dei Catholic’s Mission and the athletic department philosophy.
This position will operate primarily during the California Interscholastic Federation Spring season, November – February, Monday – Friday, from 3pm – 7pm. Days and hours may change depending on teams, schedules, practice & game length, or other school-mandated responsibilities.
Services the ideal Coach must be available to provide:
- Demonstrates thorough knowledge of sport including knowledge of all CIF and NFHS rules and regulations, skills, tactics and techniques.
- Organizes and supervises well-planned, safe and efficient practices and games by utilizing coaching staff effectively. Prepares team for competition.
- Conducts self in an ethical and professional manner and presents self as a positive role model for the student-athletes. Respects, motivates and inspires the team. Displays encouraging conduct and has a positive attitude with student-athletes, coaches, parents, officials and spectators.
- Develops team concepts in student-athletes within the values-driven framework of MDCHS. Promotes sportsmanship and respect for game rules and respect for officials. Provides a good balance between skill development and team concepts. Addressed each player as part of a team.
- Assists student-athletes to reach their full potential. Provides an enjoyable environment and experience.
- Handles administrative responsibilities such as resolving disciplinary issues appropriately and effectively; ensuring student-athlete medical and academic eligibility; and completing other administrative responsibilities timely and responsibly. (e.g. grade checks, student-athlete records, timesheets, human resources requirements). Acts responsibly with regards to equipment, uniforms, etc. such as assisting equipment and locker room personnel as necessary, and inventorying equipment.
- Communicates effectively with athletes, parents, faculty, administrators, other coaches, and the community as appropriate. Gets appropriate results to school and media timely. Promotes programs in the local and state communities.
Stipend Offered:
This is an off-campus, seasonal stipend opportunity
$2,000 - $3,000/season
