Description of Position We are seeking a part-time middle school P.E. teacher to cover three classes of 6th grade P.E. and one class of 8th grade P.E. while the permanent teacher is on leave. While the exact dates may change, the leave is expected to last from late September through early December. The Intellectual Virtues Academy Middle School Teacher has educational beliefs and values that are aligned with an IV approach and possess and model intellectual virtues themselves. The teacher understands and promotes the school’s distinctive mission and vision both within and outside the immediate school community. The teacher will instruct students in the assigned subject matter in addition to faithfully implementing and practicing IVA’s unique character-based educational model as identified in provided lesson plans. Hours and Pay The long term substitute teacher position pays an hourly rate of $35.00. The current long term substitute position is to fill a vacancy in IVA’s Physical Education teaching department. The vacancy includes three sixth grade P.E. classes and one 8th grade P.E. class. Besides teaching the classes each day, the teacher will also work alongside IVA staff to develop lesson plans, grade student work, communicate with student families, and attend weekly professional development. The position will therefore work 25 to 30 hours per week. Job Goal In the absence of a permanent classroom teacher to help students to learn subject matter and/or skills that are required for scheduled lessons and to provide meaningful instruction, grading, attendance taking, and feedback for assigned classes. Required Qualifications * Credential or teaching permit appropriate to long-term middle school P.E. substitute position. Preliminary or Clear single-subject P.E. Credential is preferred. * 3-5 years’ experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience in a school setting preferred. * See job description for full qualifications list
