Job Summary

Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, assist a certificated teacher in carrying out educational plans for students in individual or small groups in a classroom environment; some positions may be required to provide a variety of routine tasks to assist and care for children assigned to special programs; assist in preparation of instructional materials and implementation of instructional activities; perform clerical related duties as assigned.

Qualifications Associate’s Degree or higher, and/or 48 college units Passing of the district proficiency exam Bilingual Spanish / Hmong preferred Experience Experience of one year or more working with children in an education setting preferred Must include the following documents: Resume Transcripts Verification of any degrees / certificates May include the following documents: Letter of Introduction Letters of Recommendation

Major Duties and Responsibilities Assist a certificated teacher in reinforcing instruction to individual or small groups of students in a classroom environment. Interact with students, encourage performance, observe progress and share observations with supervisor and teachers. Tutor individual students and assist with studying in accordance with student needs and progress. Monitor and oversee student drills, practices and assignments in various subjects. Assist students in completing assignments, homework and projects in various subjects. Assure student understanding of classroom rules and procedures. Provide proper examples, emotional support, friendly attitude and general guidance. Observe and control the behavior of students in the classroom according to established policies and procedures. Perform a variety of clerical duties in support of classroom activities such as preparing, typing, copying and filing instructional materials, grading student tests, quizzes or assignments, and recording student grades. Set up work areas, decorations and displays, distribute and collect paper, supplies and materials, and assist with ordering classroom supplies as required. Attend and participate in various meetings and in-services as assigned. Perform other duties as assigned. Required Job Functions See and read a computer screen and printed matter with or without vision aids. Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate standard office and classroom equipment. Bending at the waist, kneeling or crouching to assist students. Sitting or standing for extended periods of time. Lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling heavy objects up to 150 pounds occasionally, 60 pounds frequently, and 20 pounds constantly.
