Under direction of the Supervisor of Student Nutrition and/or designee, perform routine tasks assisting in the preparation and service for the School Breakfast Program, National School Lunch Program, after school snack program, and catering programs; provide meals for outside agencies; observe federal regulations and standards of sanitation and safety. Maintain food service facilities, equipment and utilities in a clean and sanitary condition.

Summary of Responsibilities: Food Service Assistant is one of the cafeteria staff whose major duties are in the preparation, cooking, packaging, and serving of school lunches. Pleasant, cordial service of attractive, nutritionally-sound meals represent primary objectives of the District’s Food Service Program. Qualifications: 1. Ability to follow directions, written and oral. 2. Ability to learn quickly. 3. Knowledge of and ability to use proper sanitary methods in food preparation and storage, and in maintaining food service facilities. 4. Knowledge of safety precautions necessary in the use of cafeteria equipment. 5. Ability to read recipes; to modify recipes for different quantities.
