DEFINITION: The EKG Technician teacher provides career technical instruction preparing adult learners for entry-level employment performing electrocardiogram testing and related cardiac monitoring procedures.

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION: Valid Career Technical Education (CTE) Credential in Health Science and Medical Technology.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Teach proper EKG lead placement, electrocardiogram administration, and rhythm strip interpretation basics. Provide instruction in patient preparation, safety procedures, and equipment maintenance. Incorporate hands-on, lab-based training and simulations using EKG equipment. Prepare students to successfully earn NCCT certification by passing the NCCT exam. Partner with local healthcare employers and clinical sites to develop internship and job placement opportunities. Facilitate CASAS assessments to monitor and document student progress. REQUIRED SKILLS: Specialized knowledge of cardiac monitoring procedures and EKG equipment. Strong understanding of patient safety, infection control, and clinical lab protocols. Strong organizational and technical skills. Ability to create an engaging and practical learning environment.
