Tenure-Track Assistant Professor in School Psychology

The Psychology Department in the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences at California State University, Chico invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in School Psychology, beginning in August 2027.

This is a full-time, nine-month academic-year position. Review of applications will begin September 21, 2026, and continue until the position is filled.

The successful candidate will teach in and contribute to Chico State's NASP-accredited School Psychology graduate program. The program is a three-year course of study that meets the educational requirements for the California Pupil Personnel Services - School Psychology Credential. It emphasizes skill acquisition through introductory laboratory courses and field-based practica and internship experiences in local schools.

The School Psychology program is part of the Psychology Department, which includes 16 tenured/tenure-track faculty members, 20 lecturers, and two office staff members. The department offers a BA in Psychology; an MA with options in Psychological Science and School Psychology; and an MS in Marriage and Family Therapy.

Minimum Qualifications

The minimum education requirement for appointment to this position is a completed 3-year Master’s or a completed Education Specialist (Ed.S.) degree in School Psychology, or a doctorate degree in psychology, education, or a related field. Candidates nearing completion of the doctorate degree may be considered; however, all requirements for conferral of the doctorate degree must be met no later than the start date of the position.

Requirements for applicants with a Masters or Ed.S. degree also include

1. Current CA credentialing/licensing as a School Psychologist, Psychologist, or Licensed Educational Psychologist;
2. Three years of professional work experience as a School Psychologist in preK-12 schools;
3. Experience in delivering undergraduate/graduate instruction or professional development;
4. A record and/or plan for research and/or scholarly activities

Requirements for applicants with a doctorate also include

1. CA credentialing/licensing, or intention to obtain it, as a School Psychologist, Psychologist, or Licensed Educational Psychologist; Candidate must have achieved credentialing/licensure by the end of the third year to continue employment.
2. Experience in delivering undergraduate/graduate instruction or professional development;
3. A record and/or plan for research and/or scholarly activities.

Responsibilities

The primary responsibility of this tenure-track position is to train and supervise school psychology graduate students. This position also carries responsibilities in the areas of scholarship (develop a successful program of research or scholarly activity; seek external funding) and service (supporting the administrative and advising needs of the School Psychology program). This position will join a team of faculty and staff that coordinates the School Psychology program, with opportunities for developing program leadership.
