General Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Nova Early Childhood Special Education Teacher, the 1:1 Assistant provides individualized support to a student in a classroom setting.
Assignment:
This position will work 32 hours per week, 164 days a year.
Regular attendance required: This role relies on regular and reliable attendance to ensure consistency for our students and help support a positive, productive learning environment. This position is 7.5 hours per day, 210 days per year.Regular attendance during those hours are expected.
Essential Functions/Other Functions
Essential Functions:
- Provide academic and social emotional skill-building assistance to enrolled student.
- Supervise the student within group settings and work independently with the student as directed by the teachers.
- Implement behavior management strategies to create and maintain a classroom environment conducive to safe learning through play.
- Participate in meetings and trainings as requested by the Early Childhood Special Education Teacher.
- Communicate with students, parents, staff and complete all required documentation.
- Maintain regular attendance to carry out the duties and responsibilities of the position.
Other Functions:
- Maintain accurate data of student activities and behaviors.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum/Preferred Qualifications & Skills
Minimum Qualifications
- At least 18 years of age and a High School Diploma.
- Must meet one of the following educational requirements:
- WA State ECE Certificate of Specialization; OR
- 48 semester/72 quarter credits from an accredited college or university
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience supporting young children.
- Experience supporting children and families furthest from opportunity.
- Experience in mental health, behavioral health or special education.
Working Conditions/Employment Requirements
Working Conditions:
- Classroom Setting.
- Regular attendance during scheduled work hours.
Employment Requirements:
- Successful completion of a criminal history and fingerprint check through the Washington State Patrol and FBI.
- Proof of MMR vaccination or exemption.
- Cleared TB Test.
