Job Summary

Title: Building Substitute Teacher Division: Middle School (5th-8th) Location: Beta Academy (San Pablo) Reports to: Assistant Principal Status: Full-time, Non-Exempt, (During the Academic Year) Position Summary We are looking for a flexible and student-focused Substitute Teacher. In this position, you will report daily to the school site for an assignment of any grade level or subject area depending on need. You will be a critical part of the instructional team providing coverage, additional capacity and support to teachers. In the event that teacher coverage is not required on a given day, you will support the operations of the school site as an instructional assistant, yard supervisor, and or/fill in as necessary. This is a unique opportunity for an individual who is interested in gaining classroom teaching experience and/or is working towards their credential. You will have the opportunity to work in an innovative environment where you can develop your skill set. Essential Job Functions: -Report daily to the Caliber campus of your assignment -Provide coverage for teachers, staff members in a variety of areas, subjects and grade levels -Maintain high expectations for student behavior; consistently communicate and and equitably apply these expectations to all students. -Implement and support school-wide social-emotional programming and restorative practices. -Consistently reflect on own biases/perceptions/ pedagogical practices and mitigate the negative impact on students through culturally responsive practices. -Facilitate small group instruction with students working towards targeted outcomes. -Support operations and instruction at school as needed; serving as instructional assistant, providing testing supports, acting as a yard or meal supervisor, and/or fill in as necessary -Participate in district and/or school site services as assigned -Attend school-wides professional development as assigned and approach professional development

Requirements / Qualifications

Required Education: -Bachelor’s Degree -Must possess or be eligible for a California regular teaching credential authorizing services in Grades K-12 or an emergency 30-day teaching permit Other Qualifications: -Legal authorization to work in the U.S. -Within 60 days of hire, provision of TB (tuberculin) clearance, as mandated by the California Education Code -CA DOJ and FBI fingerprint (Livescan) clearance prior to the first day of school Preferred Experience: -Previous classroom teaching experience -Experience working with diverse student populations -Experience with social-emotional learning and restorative practices. -Experience integrating technology into the classroom.

Working Conditions: This job operates in a school/classroom environment. This role routinely uses standard classroom equipment such as laptop computers, photocopiers, whiteboards, fitness equipment, and Chromebooks, etc. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions of this position. Physical Abilities: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. This position classification involves sitting with some walking and standing for extended periods of time. Staff may be required to lift, pull or push objects approximately 50 pounds or less. The employee will encounter exposure to ill students. The position requires mobility to climb, kneel, stoop, crawl, reach and bend, and accurate perceiving of sound; near and far vision with the ability to read small print; depth dexterity; and the providing of oral information and direction. The position is primarily located at a school site with outside supervision and some district office visits. The employee will frequently work independently with high work volume and tight deadlines.
