Roles and Responsibilities: TEACHER OF STUDENTS WITH VISUAL IMPAIRMENTS (TVI): - Develop, implement, and monitor individualized education programs (IEPs) for students with visual impairments. - Provide direct and consultative TVI services in remote, hybrid, and in-person educational settings. - Adapt instructional materials and educational environments to meet students' individual visual and access needs. - Conduct assessments to evaluate student needs, educational access, and progress. - Develop appropriate IEP goals and recommendations based on assessment results and student needs. - Monitor student progress and adjust instructional methods, accommodations, and strategies as appropriate. - Foster independence, self-advocacy, and access to the educational environment. - Collaborate with parents, teachers, case managers, paraprofessionals, related service providers, and other members of the educational team. - Support students with a wide range of visual needs, including students with CVI, complex access needs, and/or deafblindness. - Maintain accurate documentation, service records, progress information, and communication with relevant stakeholders. ORIENTATION AND MOBILITY(O&M): - Be responsible for student safety in all O&M teaching environments while fostering maximum independence. - Provide O&M instruction in alignment with current best practices. - Teach students the skills and knowledge necessary to travel safely, confidently, independently, and efficiently in familiar and unfamiliar environments. - Provide instruction across appropriate settings, including school campuses, indoor and outdoor environments, and community-based settings. - Conduct thorough, data-driven O&M assessments addressing both short- and long-term student needs. - Develop assessment recommendations addressing student strengths, indoor and outdoor mobility skills, campus and community-based skills, and appropriate services. - Develop SMART IEP goals in collaborati

Duties:

Will perform all the duties of a certified Teacher of the Blind and Visually impaired and Orientation and Mobility Specialist including:

  • Being an itinerant Teacher
  • Instruct in orientation, mobility,  Braille, technology, and daily living skills
  • Perform assessments
  • Communicate between parents, students, school district personnel, and employees of SBES, Inc. 
  • Teach all components of the expanded core curriculum
  • Work with a wide variety of students, including regular education, multiply impaired, and resource students

Candidates must possess BOTH of the following California credentials: Valid California Teaching Credential authorizing services for students with Visual Impairments (TVI) – REQUIRED California Clinical or Rehabilitative Services Credential in Orientation & Mobility (O&M) – REQUIRED

Experience: - Teaching students with visual impairments: 1 year preferred - Special education experience: 1 year preferred - Orientation & Mobility experience in educational settings: Preferred Sorry, no interns or anyone that does not already have credentials and have had at least one year of experience
