BASIC FUNCTION:


Under the direction of the Director or Principal, provide physical education services to students; prepare lesson plans and instruct individual and group activities; screen and observe students during classroom and physical education activities.


REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:


ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Provide physical education services to students; work cooperatively with other teachers in planning a balanced physical education program, adapting daily schedules to accommodate weather conditions and provide time for instruction, exercise and sports activities.


Prepare lesson plans and instruct individual and group activities; instruct students in proper care and use of materials and equipment; control use of materials to prevent loss or abuse.


Screen and observe students during classroom and physical education activities; observe and control behavior of students according to established procedures.


Develop and implement approved curriculum, lessons, games and instructional activities to meet the goals and objectives of established plans; monitor and evaluate a variety of physical activities designed to facilitate student physical development.


Instruct students regarding knowledge and skills in physical fitness, tumbling, body mechanics, rhythms and dance and individual, dual or team games.


Work cooperatively with other classroom teachers in planning a balanced physical education program; teach one or more classes of physical education for students as directed.


Analyze, demonstrate and explain basic skills, knowledge and formal sports, games, rhythms and fundamentals of body movement.


Evaluate each student’s growth in physical fitness, physical skills, knowledge and social and emotional growth; prepare progress reports.


Identify student needs and cooperate with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, behavior and learning problems.


Work with other staff members in developing out-of-class physical activities; communicate with teachers and others in developing an effective physical education program.


Establish and maintain standards of student behavior required to provide an order and productive environment.


Perform a physical inventory of equipment and supplies; order equipment and supplies as necessary; maintain related records.


Prepare for and participate in committee meetings; attend conferences and workshops related to physical education programs; sponsorship of student physical education activities.


Operate a variety of physical education equipment and office equipment including a computer, fax machine and copier.


OTHER DUTIES:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:


Any combination equivalent to: bachelor's degree in Physical Education and sufficient training and experience to demonstrate the knowledge and abilities listed above.


LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:


Valid California Single Subject Physical Education Credential.

Valid California Class C driver's license.

Valid English Learner (EL) Authorization desirable.


WORKING CONDITIONS:
