Part Time Faculty office Hours are paid at a flat rate of $30 per hour.

The successful candidate will join an Industry & Trades department that continues to create curriculum responsive to student needs, increasing student completion through the implementation of strategies geared toward student equity. The machining discipline benefits from industry-supported facilities and modernized equipment that excite regional employers about training opportunities for their workforce at MJC.


The ELTEC discipline emphasizes electrical technology within industrial automation, preparing students for high-demand careers in automated processing environments, particularly food and food-related industries. While foundational residential wiring is taught, the program focuses primarily on automation, PLCs, electrical systems, industrial controls, and the technologies essential to modern processing operations. Industry partners are highly supportive of this training and are enthusiastic about new and emerging equipment being added to the program.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree(s) or higher and two years of professional experience, or an Associate’s degree(s) and six years of professional experience. Professional experience required must be directly related to teaching assignment.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL STANDARDS

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education and/or experience in teaching electrical technology, industrial automation, or related disciplines at the community college level.

Current knowledge and/or industry experience in:

• PLC programming and troubleshooting (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, etc.)

• Industrial automation systems

• Motor control systems

• Variable frequency drives (VFDs)

• Industrial electrical networking (EtherNet/IP, Modbus, ProfiNet)

• Sensors, instrumentation, and control devices

• Industrial electrical safety (including LOTO and NFPA 70E)

• Panel building, wiring, and power distribution

• Electrical theory, diagnostics, and applied troubleshooting

• Residential wiring fundamentals (supportive but not primary)

• Experience working with African American/Black, Hispanic, Native American, and other minoritized students.

• Demonstrated ability to address equity gaps through culturally responsive teaching and curriculum design.

• Understanding of HSI designations and their impact on instructional practice.


Example of Duties

GENERAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Part of the teaching assignment may be online, in the evening, and/or on Saturdays. Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Teaching lower-division college courses across the full range of core ELTEC offerings, including electrical theory, automation systems, PLCs, motor controls, instrumentation, industrial electronics, wiring, and safety.

• Advancing equitable student learning through high-quality instruction aligned with established course outlines.

• Informing students of course requirements, evaluation methods, and attendance expectations.

• Preparing and grading assignments, assessments, and examinations.

• Maintaining accurate attendance, scholastic, and other records according to district policy.

• Developing, assessing, and improving student-learning outcomes at the course and program level.

• Engaging in data inquiry and self-assessment to support student success and equity.

• Participating in required professional development and FLEX activities.

• Maintaining professional conduct and modeling industry-standard safety practices.
