The Student Transportation Driver is a part-time, on-site, school-year-based position. The driver position is expected to drive morning and afternoon routes during the scheduled school days, approximately 20 hours a week. The Student Transportation Driver transports students in a safe and efficient manner and performs all activities related to the operation of school vehicles. Supervises Student passengers. The Driver adheres, without exception, to all traffic laws while driving any and all school property. The Driver upholds the Mission of the school. Essential Responsibilities & Qualifications Required Hold and maintain a Valid California Drivers License, with no serious violations. Be a reliable person of good character who shall possess the qualifications and communication skills necessary to perform the duties of the position, and comply with the rules set forth for drivers in all federal, state and local regulations. Have a minimum of five years previous safe driving experience. Have sufficient mechanical aptitude to recognize minor problems and report these problems. Have excellent integrity and demonstrate good moral character and initiative. Exhibits positive interpersonal skills to relate well with students, staff, administration, parents and the community. Demonstrates the ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing, using proper grammar and vocabulary. Drive school vans and transport students between pickup points and school or to various events, activities, and destinations. Be in full charge of the van at all times and report unmanageable students to the Director of Facilities or available Administrator. Check and clean van at end of shift. Check gas, battery, oil, and water before departure. Check vehicle for operating safety. Assist disabled students and others out of and into vehicles.
