Job Summary

To provide academic instruction, according to guidelines established by the IEP, to special needs students. To provide learning activities and experiences designed to help them fulfill their potential or intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. To develop or modify curricula and prepare lessons and other instructional materials to student ability levels. Work in self-contained, team, departmental, or itinerant capacity as assigned. Use organizational skills to keep detailed records of each student's progress as detailed by our policy and governmental regulations.

The primary responsibility of the Resource Specialist Teacher is to provide direct instruction to the students. The resource specialist teacher shares the responsibility as a member of the IEP team for coordination, consultation, and delivery of special education services to pupils in the local resource specialist program. This is accomplished by an active role in the identification, assessment, instructional planning and implementation process which is designed to take a pupil from referral to delivery of special education services. Instruction by the resource specialist teacher is defined as working with pupils on a one-to-one or small group basis for specified periods of time on goals and objectives described in the written Individualized Education Program (IEP). This help to be given either in the resource room, the regular classroom, or other appropriate setting.
