Job Summary

Under the direction of the Transportation Supervisor, assists in planning, coordinating, and dispatching school bus transportation services for home-to-school routes, special education transportation, field trips, athletic events, and other District activities. Coordinates the daily assignment of bus drivers and equipment to ensure safe, efficient, and timely transportation services. Maintains communication with drivers, school personnel, parents, and outside agencies; assists in responding to emergencies and operational issues; maintains required transportation records and compliance documentation; and performs related duties as assigned. Positions in this classification assist the Transportation Supervisor in coordinating the daily operation of the District's transportation program. Incumbents independently resolve routine transportation scheduling, routing, dispatching, and operational problems through the application of sound judgment, established procedures, and District policies. Matters involving unusual circumstances, policy interpretation, or the establishment of new procedures are referred to the Transportation Supervisor. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: - Assists in the planning, scheduling, and coordination of regular home-to-school routes, special education transportation, preschool transportation, field trips, athletic events, extracurricular activities, and other District transportation services. - Dispatches buses, District vehicles, and bus drivers to ensure safe, timely, and efficient transportation services; coordinates route changes and vehicle substitutions as operational needs require. - Maintains continuous communication with bus drivers using two-way radio, telephone, GPS, and other communication systems; responds to routine operational questions and provides direction during daily transportation activities. - Coordinates substitute and relief driver assignments to maintain uninterrupted transportation services during employee absences, emerge

Requirements / Qualifications

- Possession of a valid California Commercial Driver’s license (CDL) with a “P” – Passenger Endorsement and “S” School Bus Endorsement. - Proof of automobile insurance. - Current Medical Examination Report (Dl-51). - Possession of a valid California Delegated Behind-the-Wheel Trainer certificate or the ability to obtain one within one year from the date of selection. - Valid First Aid Certification issued by an authorized agency or qualification by California Highway Patrol First Examination. Incumbents are subject to mandatory alcohol and drug testing.
