1.0 General Description of Assignment
Under the general supervision of the Food Service Director, performs a variety of food preparation duties according to planned menus, recipes, and the number of persons to be served; assists or cooks meals in large quantities for child development site(s); serves food; and maintains kitchen in a sanitary manner.
2.0 Primary Responsibilities
2.1 Inspects and reviews the food preparation and serving areas to ensure that appropriate cleanliness and sanitation standards are maintained.
2.2 Cooks main dishes, soups, vegetables and other hot foods; bakes cakes, pies and cookies; and prepares salads, salad dressings and desserts.
2.3 Estimates and orders appropriate quantities of foods, supplies and materials.
2.4 Establishes a systematized procedure for the rotational use of food items, supplies and materials; conducts periodic inventories.
2.5 Other duties as necessary to maintain the efficient operation of the Child Development Center kitchen.
3.0 Position Requirements
3.1 Possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
3.2 Ability to pass a district proficiency test.
3.3 Have one-year experience in the preparation of food preferably in a school setting.
3.4 Possess a ServSafe or Food Handlers’ certificate.
3.5 Ability to complete and pass a district approved weight-endurance physical test.
3.6 Knowledge of weights and measures.
3.7 Knowledge of the proper methods of preparing and cooking goods.
3.8 Knowledge of sanitary methods in the performance of all duties.
3.9 Able to lift/carry and transport up to 40 pounds and on occasion 58 pounds.
3.10 Able to proceed with duties assigned with minimal supervision.
3.11 Able to follow oral and written instructions.
3.12 Able to work within tight deadlines in the preparation and serving of food.
3.13 Able to work with students, teachers, co-workers and all levels of personnel in a courteous and professional manner.
3.14 Clean and neat in appearance.
