REDONDO BEACH UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT

 

 

CLASS TITLE:  SYSTEMS TECHNICIAN

 

 

BASIC FUNCTION:

 

Under the direction of the Chief Information and Instructional Technology Officer, perform a variety of technical duties involved in the installation, configuration, maintenance, troubleshooting, diagnosis and repair of computer hardware, software and peripherals.

 

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Install, configure, modify and maintain computer hardware, software and peripherals to assure the smooth running of computer work stations and systems; install, upgrade and update computer software and applications; configure hardware and software to assure proper computer operations.

 

Inspect, troubleshoot, diagnose and resolve hardware, software and peripheral malfunctions; respond to user requests, work orders and trouble tickets; install, configure, maintain and repair a variety of peripherals such as printers and scanners.

 

Prepare computer equipment for staff use; install software and hardware and observe elements of the computer for evidence of incorrect performance; make adjustments as needed; connect work stations to network server and assure network connectivity and access to system information and files.

 

Provide training and support to technology users concerning computer and related hardware and software operations; respond to inquiries and provide technical information concerning related practices, techniques, malfunctions and procedures.

 

Perform a variety of network support activities such as establishing and maintaining user accounts, IP addresses, e-mail accounts and internet connectivity.

 

Communicate with District personnel and various outside agencies to exchange information and resolve issues or concerns.

 

Operate a variety of computers, servers, peripherals and specialized software; utilize various hand tools and testers; drive a vehicle to conduct work.

 

Maintain current knowledge of technological advances in computer hardware and software.

 

Inspect computer equipment and determine need for outside assistance and repairs; arrange for and follow up on repairs as needed.

 

Maintain various records related to IP addresses, passwords and assigned activities.

 

Attend and participate in various meetings as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE OF:

Practices, procedures and techniques involved in the installation, configuration, maintenance, troubleshooting, diagnosis and repair of computer hardware, software and peripheral equipment.

Computer hardware systems and software applications utilized by the District.

Principles, methods and procedures of operating computers and peripheral equipment.

Materials, methods and tools used in the operation and repair of computer systems.

Manual instructions, sufficient to enable quick and accurate diagnosis of difficulties.

Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy.

Record-keeping techniques.

 

ABILITY TO:

Install, configure, modify and maintain computer hardware, software and peripherals to assure the smooth running of computer work stations and systems.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

 

Any combination equivalent to:  graduation from high school and three years experience involving the installation, maintenance and repair of computer hardware, software and peripherals.

 

LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

 

Valid California driver’s license.
