Two Positions Available – Immediate Need Paradise Unified School District is seeking two caring, dependable, and safety-focused Special Education Transportation Aides to support students while they are transported to and from specialized educational programs located off the Ridge. Available Positions may range from 5-8 hrs. These are non-driving positions. Transportation Aides ride on the school bus or District vehicle with students and assist in providing a safe, calm, and supportive transportation experience. Position Responsibilities The Special Education Transportation Aide will: Ride with students during transportation to and from their assigned school or educational program. Support students with disabilities and individualized needs while they are in transit. Assist students with safely entering and exiting the vehicle. Help ensure students remain properly seated and secured throughout the trip. Monitor student behavior, health, comfort, and safety during transportation. Use positive behavior-support strategies and follow established student support plans. Provide reassurance and redirection when students experience anxiety, frustration, or difficulty during transportation. Communicate concerns or important information to the driver, school staff, and appropriate District personnel. Maintain student confidentiality and professional boundaries. Follow all District safety procedures, policies, and staff directions. Assist with other related student-support duties as assigned. Job Title:      TRANSPORTATION AIDE - SPECIAL EDUCATION                         Range 13

 

Position Purpose:

To assist a bus driver in ensuring a safe ride for targeted special education students that ride a bus; complimenting at-home and at-school programs whenever possible; provide for any specialized physical health care procedures that may be required; and follow all special intervention procedures, as instructed.  Employees in the classification receive direct to general supervision within a framework of well-defined policies and procedures.  This job class requires a high degree of positive contact with assigned students.

 

Supervisor:  Director of Transportation

 

Essential Job Duties:

The following tasks are essential for this position. 

 

  1. Ride bus to and/or from school to attend to needs of students who have medical or behavior needs.
  2. Supervise targeted students entering, leaving and traveling on the bus.
  3. Assist the bus driver with supervision of the behavior of all riders.
  4. Implement any individual programs deemed necessary to the bus environment.
  5. Maintain required reports on targeted students on a daily basis.
  6. Assist bus driver in loading and unloading students.
  7. Works flexible hours.
  8. Performs related duties as required.

 

Minimum Knowledge, Skill and Ability:

 

Knowledge of:

  • Techniques and methods of child supervision.
  • Cultural and physical differences and needs of children as assigned.
  • Proper English usage, grammar, vocabulary, spelling and punctuation.
  • Pertinent academic areas and learning situations.

 

Skill and Ability to:

  • Follow directions and carry through on indirect supervised programs.
  • Interact with the students that ride the bus on a positive and practical level.
  • Provide necessary assistance to students as needed.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Understand and carry out both oral and written instructions.
  • Maintain a firm but patient and courteous attitude toward students.
  • Exercise tact, diplomacy and good judgment in dealing with students.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

 

Training and Experience:

Any combination equivalent to training and experience that could likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities would be: graduation from high school.

  • Require the mobility to stand, stoop, reach and bend.
