 I. Position Purpose

The Preschool Teacher Aide is responsible for the general supervision and management of classes of preschool/pre-k children between the ages of 2.9 and 6 years old.

II.  Major Duties and Responsibilities: 

Daily Activities:

  1. Conduct an effective child development program to meet the social, emotional, physical, language, cognitive, and spiritual development of each child, in accordance with the policies and philosophy of St. Stanislaus Preschool.  As well as meeting all child care licensing standards.  All Teachers and Aides are mandated reporters for child abuse.
  2. Ensure the safety of children through constant supervision (teachers need to be spread out on the playground), effective arrangement of space, proper maintenance of equipment, and regular practice of fire drill and other emergency procedures.  This includes making sure that children are signed in and out each day by an adult authorized by the parent to do so.
  3. Treat each child with dignity and respect.
  4. Make sure the child care routines are carried out in a manner that is consistent with good child development principles.  This includes using the bathroom, hand washing, eating, and transitioning between activities.
  5. Assist the classroom room teacher as needed: monitor behavior, help with circle time, centers, etc.
  6. Create a pleasant inviting classroom atmosphere in which children feel comfortable and secure.
  7. Provide positive guidance to help children develop the ability to be self-disciplined.
  8. Assume an equal share of the joint housekeeping responsibilities of the staff.
  9. Prepare snacks as per the snack menu.
  10. Work as a member of a team to ensure a high standard of quality in the center.

 Minimum Qualifications

  1. Must possess basic classroom management skills
    1. Conflict resolution
    2. Delegation

    Education and Experience  

    • 12 units Early Childhood Development units
