KEPPEL UNION SCHOOL DISTRICT INSTRUCTIONAL AIDE I (Moderate/Severe) DEFINITION Under general supervision of the Site Administrator, to perform a variety of supportive instructional activities, as well as behavior management, for students with an Individualized Educational Plan (IEP); and to do other related work as required. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES 1. Assists instructional personnel with the presentation of learning materials; 2. Provides academic and/or social instructional assistance to individuals and/or small groups of students in accordance with IEP’s and/or Behavior Support Plans; 3. Monitors and assists students in independent practice and as a follow up to the presentation of concepts by instructional personnel; 4. Assists in the shaping of appropriate social behaviors; 5. Assists in the management of student behavior in accordance with the IEP; 6. Assists in the preparation of a variety of instructional materials; 7. Provides academic and/or social instructional assistance to individuals and/or small groups of students in accordance with IEP’s and/or Behavior Support Plans; 8. Uses a variety of educational materials, supplies, and equipment designed to meet the individual student needs; 9. Maintains a variety of records and files including data collection, confidential student records, and information; 10. Confers, as needed, with the teacher(s), support staff, and other school personnel concerning programs and materials to meet student needs, and alerts teacher to any special circumstances and/or information concerning students’ behavior and/or needs;

Requirements / Qualifications

Knowledge of: Basic concepts of child growth and development, and developmental behavioral characteristics; Student behavior management strategies and techniques; Appropriate English usage, punctuation, spelling and grammar; Basic arithmetical concepts; Routine record, storage, retrieval and management. Ability to: Demonstrate an understanding, patient and receptive attitude toward students of varied ages; Communicate effectively in oral and written form; Perform routine clerical tasks and operate a variety of educational and office related machines and equipment; Utilize a variety of appropriate methods and procedures in the enhancement of an instructional environment; Adhere to confidentiality laws regarding student information Understand and carry out oral and written directions; Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships; Routinely and correctly lift and carry weights up to, but not to exceed, 50 pounds Experience : One year of paid or volunteer experience working with multi-age groups of children. Education : High School Diploma or its equivalent. Completed two years at an institution of higher education or obtained an associate’s or higher degree (or have met a rigorous standard of quality, and can demonstrate through a formal state or local assessment, knowledge of, and the ability to assist in instructing) Prefer Standard First Aid card Board Approved: September 17, 2015
