General Responsibilities


Reporting directly to the Specialized Transportation Director, the Assistant Bus Fleet Technician/Mechanic will perform mechanical service and maintenance of school buses or related equipment as assigned by the Bus Fleet Technician/Mechanic.


Assignment:

This position will work full-time (8 hours per day) and year-round.

Regular attendance required: accepting and working full substitute assignments is an expectation of this position.



Essential Functions/Other Functions

Essential Functions:

  1. Perform preventative maintenance and regular school bus safety inspections.
  2. Change oil and filters, adjust brakes, lubricate chassis, wheel bearing and other assemblies.
  3. Communicate effectively with staff.
  4. Perform general tune-ups utilizing diagnostic equipment.
  5. Repair and replace seats, latches, and other body components and assemblies.
  6. Operate battery chargers, compression gauges, hoists, jacks, pumps, compressors, air tools, presses, air wrenches and other shop tools, equipment and machines require for performing repair and maintenance of motor vehicles.
  7. Maintain regular attendance to carry out the duties and responsibilities of the position.

Other Functions:

  1. Produce and maintain accurate and detailed records of fleet maintenance and service work.
  2. Maintain a clean and organized shop and parts room.
  3. May be required to drive bus routes on occasion.
  4. Other Duties as assigned.


Minimum/Preferred Qualifications & Skills

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. High school diploma or equivalent.
  2. One year work experience in automotive repair and maintenance.
  3. Skill in the use and care of tools and equipment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Hold a valid Washington State Commercial Driver's License (CDL), Class C minimum, with passenger endorsement.
  2. Experience working in a public sector setting.
  3. Experience working on buses.



Working Conditions/Employment Requirements

Working Conditions:

  1. Work in shop environment with power tools and equipment and vehicle fluids.
  2. Must be able to move or position up to 50 pounds.
  3. Must work outdoors in various weather conditions for roadside repairs.
  4. Adapt to changes in the work environment and manage competing demands.

Employment Requirements:

  1. Successful completion of a criminal history and fingerprint check through the Washington State Patrol and FBI.
  2. Maintain Washington State Commercial Driver's License (CDL), Class C, with passenger endorsement.
