TITLE: CLERK/RECEPTIONIST REPORTS TO: Assistant Superintendent-Administrative Services DEPARTMENT: Secretarial/Clerical CLASSIFICATION: Classified HOURS PER DAY: 8 WORK YEAR: 12 Months SALARY: Range 16 of the Classified Salary Schedule BASIC FUNCTION: Under the direction of the Assistant Superintendent-General Services, performs a wide variety of responsible clerical work including typing duties, operates the district switchboard, gives routine information to the public, and performs other related work as assigned. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: •Greet the public in person or over the phone (acts as receptionist and information clerk). •Perform district clerical work (categorical/special funded programs). •Keep records and generate reports as directed. •Demonstrate interest in the position by participating in workshops. •Interpret in office as needed. •Interpret in conference with students and parents as needed. •Translate English/other material as needed. •Assist in the office as needed with office personnel. •Post and distribute mail as needed. •Filing records as needed. •Perform other duties as assigned. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Education: •A high school diploma or equivalent. •Courses in office practice, typing, computer literacy, and human psychology preferred. Experience: •Some experience in general office clerical work preferred. KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of: •Modern office practices, procedures and equipment. •Computer/software literate. •Receptionist and telephone techniques and etiquette. •Correct English and Spanish usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary. •Bilingual English/Spanish. Ability to: •Perform clerical/office work. •Follow oral and written directions. •Operate telephone (switchboard). •Get along well with others. •Type at least 40 words per minute without error. •Pleasant, courteous, helpful with the public and district personnel. License: •Valid California Driver's License. WORKING CONDITIONS: •Position requires extensive time at the district switchboard, use of a computer terminal and the ability to speak, hear and see. •Office environment. •Sitting and viewing a computer monitor for extended periods of time. •Operate a typewriter and computer keyboard. •Communicate with and provide information to others.
