DEFINITION: Under the direction of Superintendent of Educational Services and the supervision of the Site Principal, assists in the direct care and supervision of students and handle routine clerical duties. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: • Assists site director as needed. • Assists director in maintaining classroom discipline; organizes activities, play and homework. • Gives each child individual and special attention each day; responding to each child’s particular needs and characteristics. • Sets up and arranges supplies and equipment in the classroom as directed. • Prepare, distribute and assist with clean up of snacks. • Prepare teaching aids, charts, bulletin boards as directed. • Responsible for the daily playground activities; implementation of daily lesson plans. • Responsible for daily clean up of site room. • Perform other related duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge and skills of: • Basic principles and practices of early child development including proper care and discipline. • Core subjects taught in district schools. • Safe practices in classroom and playground activities. • Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and vocabulary. • Basic record-keeping techniques. • Classroom procedures and conduct. • Good communication skills. • Basic First Aid. Ability to: • Provide quality child care and a safe environment for children in an assigned child care center program. • Assist the teacher with the instructional and related activities of a lab or classroom setting • Present a positive image of Golden Valley Unified School District, • Print and write legibly • Understand and follow written or oral directions • Demonstrate an understanding, patient and receptive attitude toward ELL students • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others Education and Experience: Graduation from high school; forty-eight units of college work or passing of paraprofessional exam for NCLB compliance; with a preference of one year of experience in working with school age children in an organized setting. Licenses and Certificates: Valid California Class C Driver’s license. WORKING CONDITIONS: Environment: Classroom/Child Care environment Physical Abilities: Hearing and speaking to exchange information, seeing to monitor children; dexterity of hands and fingers to hold children and manipulate objects used in play activities; walking and stepping/up and down; lifting and carrying light objects; sitting and standing for periods of time. Hazards: Working with students who are sometimes disruptive; possible exposure to communicable diseases. Education and Experience: Graduation from high school; forty-eight units of college work or passing of paraprofessional exam for NCLB compliance; with a preference of one year of experience in working with school age children in an organized setting.
