Job Summary

School Counselor DEFINITION Under the direction of the school Principal, provides academic counseling and guidance to students and parents to ensure each student achieves their maximum education, vocational, and social potential. Collaborates with teachers, parents, and administration to increase student achievement. Assist students to overcome problems that impede learning. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Provides information regarding graduation, post secondary education opportunities, college readiness and entrance requirements, scholarships, and financial aid resources Assists students in evaluating their aptitudes and abilities through the interpretation of individual standardized test scores and other pertinent data, and works with students in their academic and career planning and decision making Provides individual and/or group counseling services for students Supervises peer advocates Provides information, support, and counseling to parents and families, when appropriate Serves as a member of the Student Study Team meetings Attends individualized Education Planning Team meetings Serves as a resource for teachers as they address the academic, social, and emotional needs of students Recognizes and serves cultural differences and the special needs of students and families; Confers and consults with school administrators, teachers, parents, and students, when necessary Assists with in-service training of school personnel and parents Keeps abreast of new developments in the field Attends staff meetings and serves on school and district committees, as required Organize and conduct workshops and group meetings Performs other duties, as assigned.
