Job description:
Lead First Grade General Studies Teacher (Part-Time Mornings)
Great first-grade teachers change lives. We're looking for one.
Maimonides Academy is seeking an exceptional, experienced Lead First Grade General Studies Teacher to join our elementary faculty.
We are looking for an educator who believes first grade is one of the most important years in a child's education, a teacher who understands that this is the year children become readers, writers, mathematicians, problem-solvers, and confident learners.
This is more than a teaching position. It is an opportunity to join a school where teachers are respected as professionals, families are true partners, collaboration is built into the school day, and children are known, challenged, and loved.
About Maimonides Academy
Maimonides Academy is an independent Preschool–8th grade school in Los Angeles serving approximately 600 students. For nearly 60 years, we have been committed to academic excellence while nurturing the intellectual, social, and emotional growth of every child.
Our students are curious, respectful, and eager to learn. Our families place a high value on education and work closely with teachers to help every child succeed. Our faculty is collaborative, supportive, and committed to continuous growth because we believe the best schools are built by great teachers working together.
The Position
As our Lead First Grade General Studies Teacher, you will teach all core academic subjects, including:
- Reading
- Writing
- Mathematics
- Science
- Social Studies
General Studies teachers do not teach religious instruction, and no prior knowledge of Judaism is required. We welcome outstanding educators from all backgrounds.
Collaboration & Support
At Maimonides, teaching is a team effort.
You'll work alongside a classroom partner who supports instruction, including small-group learning and individualized student support. Together, you'll ensure every child is supported academically, socially, and emotionally while maintaining strong partnerships with families.
You'll also benefit from regular collaboration with the first-grade General Studies team, as well as dedicated planning time built into your workday—even as a part-time teacher. We believe great teaching happens when educators have the time to plan together, share ideas, and learn from one another.
All teachers receive ongoing instructional coaching and mentoring. While we are committed to supporting every teacher's professional growth, this position is designed for an experienced educator who already brings a strong foundation in classroom management, high-quality instruction, and parent communication. We are looking for someone who is confident leading a classroom independently from day one and excited to continue refining an already strong practice.
