The Biliteracy Coach serves as an instructional leader who supports teachers in implementing high-quality biliteracy instruction within the school's Spanish/English Dual Language Immersion (DLI) program. The coach works collaboratively with teachers, administrators, and instructional teams to improve student achievement through coaching, professional development, data analysis, and implementation of evidence-based biliteracy practices. The biliteracy coach promotes the goals of bilingualism, biliteracy, academic achievement, and sociocultural competence while ensuring equitable outcomes for all students, including multilingual learners. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Provide individualized coaching and support to teachers biliteracy instruction. Model effective biliteracy lessons in both English and Spanish classrooms. Conduct classroom observations and provide timely, constructive feedback to teachers. Support teachers in implementing differentiated instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners. Collaborate with teachers to plan lessons, assessments, interventions, and instructional strategies. Support teachers in implementing the school's Dual Language Immersion model with fidelity. Promote research-based frameworks like the Biliteracy Unit Framework (Beeman), Literacy Squared (Escamilla), C6 Biliteracy Framework (Medina) that support bilingualism and biliteracy development. Advanced expertise in early biliteracy development, prioritizing orality as a foundational precursor to literacy, with deep knowledge of the Simple View of Reading, Roads to Reading for Multilingual Learners (2025), and the science of reading, as well as the important critiques and additional lens needed of SoR by the dual language education community. Coach teachers on effective strategies for developing reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills in English and Spanish. Support the implementation of cross-linguistic transfer strategies that strengthen biliteracy
Requirements / Qualifications
Required Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Education, Literacy, Reading, Bilingual Education, or a related field. Valid California Teaching Credential (Multiple Subject or Single Subject). Valid English Learner Authorization (CLAD or equivalent). Valid Spanish Bilingual Authorization (BCLAD, Bilingual Authorization, or equivalent). Experience Minimum of five (5) years of successful classroom teaching experience. Demonstrated expertise in biliteracy instruction and development. Experience working with multilingual learners and diverse student populations. Experience using assessment data to improve instructional outcomes. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Advanced proficiency in spoken and written English and Spanish. Deep understanding of biliteracy development and evidence-based instructional practices. Deep understanding of how English and Spanish work and how they can be taught to speakers of other languages. Knowledge of Dual Language Immersion program design and implementation. Knowledge of California ELA/ELD Standards and Framework. Strong coaching, communication, facilitation, and collaboration skills. Ability to analyze and interpret student achievement data. Ability to build trust and maintain positive professional relationships. Proficiency with educational technology and assessment platforms. Preferred Qualifications Master's Degree in Literacy, Reading Education, Bilingual Education, Curriculum and Instruction, Educational Leadership, or a related field. Reading and Literacy Added Authorization (RLAA) or Reading Specialist Credential. Experience serving as an instructional coach, mentor teacher, or teacher leader. Experience in a Spanish Dual Language Immersion program. Experience designing and facilitating professional development for educators.
