THE POSITION
Under general supervision, assists a certified teacher and/or therapist on the supervision and instruction of special education students in a variety of educational settings including the classroom and community. The Behavior Health Support Aide will assist in the implementation of appropriate classroom and school-wide behavior interventions, implementation of individual student’s behavior support plans, attend staff meetings and trainings, complete clerical duties and perform related duties as assigned.

* Observes and records behavior patterns and implements appropriate techniques to reinforce acceptable behavior.
* Maintains awareness of physical and emotional changes in students and reports concerns to the teacher and/or therapist.
* Effectively prompts students to behave in a safe, respectful and productive manner.
* Provides close supervision to students to ensure interactions are appropriate and safe.
* De-escalates students who are emotionally upset or frustrated.

* Ability to de-escalate a student in crisis using research-based interventions.
