SUMMARY: Under the direction and supervision of the Director of Maintenance Operations and Transportation and or designee the Van Driver is responsible to perform the necessary duties to safely operate a school van over designated routes to transport children to and from school, field trips and extra-curricular events. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (other duties may be assigned): • Safely and effectively operates a school van over designated routes as assigned, in accordance with assigned time schedules; • Operates the school van within the rules and regulations set forth by the district; • Maintains order among students on van and while being picked up; • Complies with District policies regarding student discipline procedures and contact with parents or other citizens; • Performs daily safety checks according to district regulations and reports immediately any and all safety repair needs to the Director of MOT; • Develop and maintain a positive rapport with students, being fair, consistent and respectful; • Abide by and enforce school rules for discipline and positive recognition programs; • Correct student behavior as necessary in a respectful manner. • Model and enforce safety, respect, and responsibility; • Maintains the van in a safe and clean operating condition; • Maintains accurate and current daily transportation reports; • Keeps daily records of children transported and fuel used; • Provides simple first aid to injured or ill students when required; • Transports students, teachers, and parent volunteers on field trips to various locations, choosing the safest and most efficient routes to make scheduled departure and arrival times; • Cleans van, checks safety features, etc. daily, as directed by the Director; • Performs duties needed in a disaster emergency; • Other related duties as assigned.
Requirements / Qualifications
• High School diploma or general education degree (GED) required. • Valid California Drivers License • Be at least 18 years old • Pass a criminal background check and fingerprint clearance • Provide current DMV Record • Pass Pre-employment Post Offer Physical • Pass Drug Test • Participate in random drug and alcohol testing program • Submit a clear tuberculosis risk assessment • Complete a first aid training program or hold a current first aid certificate issued by the American Red Cross or an equivalent program. • Correctly lift and/or move up to 75 pounds including students.
