SCHOOL BUS DRIVER Experienced Drivers Encouraged to Apply Paradise Unified School District is seeking experienced, safety-focused School Bus Drivers to join our Transportation team. This position is responsible for safely transporting students to and from school, between school sites, and on approved extracurricular and activity trips. We are looking for dependable professionals who demonstrate sound judgment, excellent driving skills, and a genuine commitment to student safety. Successful candidates must be able to maintain a safe, orderly, and welcoming environment for students while operating District vehicles in accordance with all applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures. Position Responsibilities Under the direction of the Transportation Supervisor, the School Bus Driver will: Safely operate a school bus over designated routes and in accordance with established schedules. Transport students to and from school, school activities, field trips, athletic events, and other authorized destinations. Conduct required pre-trip and post-trip inspections and complete all required documentation. Maintain appropriate student behavior and ensure students follow established bus safety rules. Assist students in safely boarding and exiting the bus, including students with special transportation needs. Operate wheelchair lifts, secure mobility devices, and provide other assistance as assigned. Report unsafe conditions, mechanical concerns, accidents, delays, student conduct issues, and other transportation-related matters promptly. Maintain the cleanliness, safety, and security of the assigned vehicle. Participate in required safety meetings, training, testing, and professional development. Perform related duties as assigned. PARADISE UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT Job Title: BUS DRIVER Range 23 Position Purpose: To transport students to and from school, on field trips and other sites within designated route(s) and to ensure the safety of the student passengers while riding in a school bus. Employees in this classification receive general supervision within a framework of standard policies and procedures. This job class is responsible for the safe operation of a 10-speed school bus over mountainous and narrow roads and for ensuring the safety of student passengers while meeting established bus schedules. Supervisor: Director of Transportation Essential Job Duties: The following tasks are essential for this position. Incumbents in this classification may not perform all of these tasks, or may perform similar related tasks not listed here. 1. Drives a 10-speed school bus or other transportation vehicle within a prescribed route(s) in accordance with time schedules; picking up and discharging students at designed stops. 2. Escorts students across streets using the bus flashing red lights signal. 3. Transports students and teachers on field trips to various locations; planning necessary route(s) and stops as needed. 4. Maintains order and proper discipline of student passengers according to District policy; enforces bus riding rules. 5. Issues written bus citations to students and communicates directly with parents regarding bus discipline problems. 6. Conducts safety and operational inspections of assigned bus daily prior to starting route. 7. Reports needed mechanical repairs when necessary. 8. Services buses with gas, diesel fuel and oil; checks and fills tires and batteries. 9. Performs periodic safety drills as required by law; completing necessary reports upon request. 10. Maintains cleanliness of vehicle to ensure safe operating condition. 11. Completes mileage and other reports including passenger counts. 12. Adheres as closely as possible to established schedule of bus stop arrival and departure times. 13. Attends driver training programs to maintain current knowledge of California Motor Vehicle Code and the Education Code as it applies to the operation of vehicles in the transportation of school children. 14. Operates a two-way radio. 15. Chains bus when road conditions deem it necessary. 16. Washes bus as needed. 17. Performs related duties as required. Minimum Knowledge, Skill and Ability: Knowledge of: • California State Motor Vehicle Code, the California State Education Code and District policies and requirements related to the operation of vehicles used in the transport of students. • Basic first aid practices, procedures and techniques. • Safe driving practices. Skill and Ability to: • Understand and carry out both oral and written instructions in an independent manner. • Establish and maintain proper student conduct on school vehicle. • Drive a school bus safely and efficiently • Exercise good judgment and extreme caution while driving. • Maintain valid certification as a school bus driver according to State regulators. • Meet the physical requirements necessary to safety and effectively perform required duties. • Establish and maintain effective work relationships with those contacted in the performance of required duties. Training and Experience: Any combination equivalent to training and experience that could likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills and abilities would be: ability to read and write at a level sufficient to perform assigned duties.
