Job Summary

Responsible for administering psychoeducational assessments, writing psychoeducational and multidisciplinary reports, and recommending appropriate intervention strategies as part of the pre-referral process. The school psychologist also provides services to pupils, parents, and school staff for the purpose of providing a positive learning environment and promoting better pupil adjustment and academic achievement in both special education and general education classrooms.

SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGIST Definition: To provide psychological assessment, consultation and assistance with all Individual Education Plan (IEP) referrals and individuals with identified learning disabilities. Examples of Duties: a. psychoeducational assessment and diagnosis of specific learning, emotional and behavioral disabilities, including, but not limited to, written case study evaluations, recommendations for remediation or placement, or other pertinent psychoeducational interventions, and periodic reevaluation of such children; b. consultation with parents to assist in understanding the learning and adjustment processes of children; c. consultation with certificated and classified personnel in the development and implementation of classroom methods and procedures designed to facilitate pupil learning and to overcome learning and behavior disorders, including assistance with the in-class consultation model. d. consultation with school administrators and site Student Study Teams regarding appropriate learning objectives for children, planning of developmental and remedial programs for students in regular and special school programs, and the development of educational experimentation and evaluation; e. psychological counseling and other therapeutic techniques with children and parents, including parent education; f. participate/conduct in inservice training to district staff; g. referral and consultation services to and with community agencies; may serve as liaison between the school, the family and the selected community resource when therapeutic, academic and/or social services are provided; h. oversee the coordination, assessment, monitoring, behavior plan and training of special education and regular education staff in the implementation of the Hughes Bill as needed. i. other duties as assigned. Job Qualifications: Knowledge of: a. assessment procedures and materials; b. state and federal mandates for special education; c. special education laws Ability to: a. interpret special education laws for parents and staff; b. conduct psycho-educational assessments for ethnically diverse population in accordance with State and Federal mandates; and c. establish rapport with students and build effective relationships with parents and staff. Experience: School psychologist experience is desirable, but not mandatory. Credential: Pupil Personnel Services Credential - School Psychology. Supervision: Works under the direction, supervision and evaluation of the Coordinator of Student Services and Special Projects. Board adopted: 05/01/95
