Job Summary
DEFINITION OF POSITION Under general supervision of the site principal, to perform routine cleaning work in school, office, or district buildings; to perform routine grounds maintenance work; and to do related work as required. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES - Confer with principal regarding care and cleaning programs at the school site - Working from a prepared work schedule, sweeps, scrubs, waxes and polishes concrete, linoleum, tile, and wood floors and vacuums rugs and carpets in offices, nurses and faculty rooms, classrooms, shop buildings, gymnasiums, libraries, recreation rooms, auditoriums, dining rooms, cafeterias, hallways, ramps, and stairways - Cleans and dusts walls, furniture, woodwork, and other equipment - Picks up paper and other refuse on grounds and sweeps walks and entrances - At the request of the school principal, see that rooms are set up for special events and meetings - Trims shrubs and rakes or vacuums leaves as necessary - Cleans windows, door glass, and drinking fountains - Cleans and polishes metal work such as door panels and hand railings - Empties and cleans waste containers - Assists in moving or rearranging chairs, tables, desks, furniture, and other equipment - Replaces lights or light fixture covers and makes minor repairs or adjustments in classroom furniture - Completes site work requests as prioritized by the site principal - Maintains equipment used in the course of work - Reports safety, sanitary and fire hazards to site principal - Assists in the restoration of buildings and grounds during summer vacation - Waters and trims shrubs; hoes weeds - Rakes leaves or picks them up with a leaf vacuum - Sets up and breaks down multi-use room for lunch daily - Related custodial duties as assigned by principal or District administrator
Requirements / Qualifications
EDUCATION Equivalent to the completion of twelfth grade (High School Diploma or GED) EXPERIENCE Two (2) years experience as a custodian in a school or private sector setting PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Essential duties require, but are not limited to the following physical abilities (consideration will be given to reasonable accommodation, with or without the use of aids): - Sufficient vision to read printed materials, adjust focus, and perceive distances and depth - Sufficient mobility to stoop, reach, climb, kneel and move about - Use hands and fingers to feel and grasp - Ability to lift and/or move up to 40 pounds OTHER REQUIREMENTS - Possess a valid California Driver’s license - Fingerprint clearance prior to employment - TB clearance prior to employment - Pass a District physical upon employment - Read, write and speak English at a level required to safely perform job duties
