Pay Range depends on the assignment that you would be covering. This is an "on-call" position. Computer skills necessary. You must be available full time or part time between the hours of 7:30am to 4pm.

BASIC FUNCTION:

Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, performs routine typing and clerical functions in support of a school or District function; performs other related duties as required.


DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:

The Clerk Typist I classification is the entry-level class in the Clerk Typist series. Incumbents in this classification are assigned routine and repetitive functions requiring minimal previous experience. Duties are generally preformed with brief instruction and under direct supervision. Incumbents in the Clerk Typist II classification perform a variety of clerical and typing duties requiring basic knowledge of procedures and precedents for a school or District function. Duties are performed under general supervision with only occasional instructions or assistance. Incumbents in the Clerk Typist III classification perform complex clerical functions requiring a high degree of independent judgment.


REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:

1. Types letters, memoranda, bulletins, reports or other materials from straight copy or rough drafts.

2. Receives visitors and refers telephone calls and visitors to proper person; answers routine questions according to established guidelines.

3. Maintains records, inventories, indexes and cross references files.

4. Receives, sorts and distributes incoming and outgoing mail.

5. Duplicates items, packages and distributes completed copies.

6. Assures the timely distribution and receipt of a variety of records, reports and bulletins as directed.

7. Performs clerical work such as posting records, making arithmetic computations and securing information from clearly indicated sources.

8. Performs routine typing of reports from detailed copy; posts records; proofs completed typing assignments.

9. Makes telephone calls as directed.

10. Operates a variety of office equipment including, but not limited to, computer terminal, typewriter, calculator, telephone, fax and copiers.

11. May translate written material from English to a designated second language and from that language into English; may translate conversations or provide interpretive services for non-English speaking individuals and others.

12. Performs related duties as assigned.


KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge Of:

1. Modern office practices, procedures and operation of equipment.

2. Basic record-keeping techniques.

3. Correct English language usage; vocabulary, spelling, grammar and punctuation.

8. First aid techniques and practices.

9. Translation of written material from English into a designated second language and from that language into English is desirable.

1. Perform clerical duties such as filing, duplicating, typing and maintaining simple records.

2. Operate a variety of office equipment such as, but not limited to, computer terminal, typewriter, calculator, telephone, fax, adding machine and copiers.

3. Make simple arithmetic calculations quickly and accurately.

4. Understand and follow oral and written directions.

5. Meets schedules and timelines.

6. Type forty (40) words per minute net from clear copy.

7. Maintain records and prepare reports.

8. Maintain confidentiality of school and student information.

9. Effectively speak, read and write English.

10. Performs duties effectively with many demands on time and constant interruptions.

11. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

1. High school diploma or equivalent; and

2. One (1) year of general clerical and typing experience or any combination equivalent to sufficient training and experience to demonstrate the knowledge and abilities listed above.


LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

1. Must provide a certified certificate demonstrating the ability to type forty (40) words per minute.

2. CRP and Red Cross First Aid Certificate are desirable.

3. Valid State of California Drivers’ License is desirable.


WORKING CONDITIONS:

1. District or school office environment.

2. Subject to many demands on time and constant interruptions.

3. Subject to sitting, bending or stooping, lifting and walking.

4. Subject to working in a school environment and exposure to sunlight and other outside conditions.

5. Subject to working at computer video work station(s), operating computer keyboards, looking at computer video screens.


PHYSICAL ABILITES:

Seeing to inspect documents and to read fine print; depth perception to file; hearing and speaking to communicate with others in a normal voice in person and on telephone; speak clearly to communicate with parents; staff and others; sitting or standing alternately for extended periods of time; climbing stairs; dexterity of hands and fingers to operate office equipment; writ e legibly; bending and stooping; reaching overhead and above shoulders; lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling objects weighing up to twenty-five (25) pounds.
