CUYAMA JOINT UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT
“A great place to teach and live”

The Cuyama Joint Unified School District is a dynamic, rural district centrally located in beautiful Cuyama Valley. The district boundaries include areas in Santa Barbara, Ventura and San Luis Obispo Counties. We are located along Highway 166, approximately halfway between Santa Maria and Bakersfield.

The district has two award winning schools; Cuyama Elementary School (K-8) and Cuyama Valley High School (9-12). Cuyama Elementary School is a 1997 California Distinguished School Regional Nominee. It has an average enrollment of 220, with average class size for grades K-3 of 20, and grades 4-8 of 25. The Cuyama Valley High School received the Distinguished School award from the State of California for the 95/96 school year. It has an average enrollment of 95, with average class size of 15 students. There are 11 teachers at the elementary school and 8 at the high school. The school district has a full, active and successful extracurricular sports program. The school has an active vocational agriculture and industrial arts program. The primary economic base for the district residents is agriculture.

We are unique and successful for a variety of reasons including low student-teacher ratio, supportive staff, parents and board members who are dedicated to improving all aspects of the school.
