RESPONSIBILITIES OF PRINCIPAL
The principal of each school shall, in addition to any other powers or duties granted to or imposed upon him in the governing board policies, or superintendent’s administrative regulations:
- Be primarily responsible for the supervision and administration of the school.
- Provide leadership for personnel of the certificated and classified services at the school.
- Aid the superintendent in the recruitment and selection of personnel of the certificated and classified services for employment in the school.
- Manage, supervise and evaluate the performance of duty of each person in the certificated and classified services assigned to the school.
- Provide for the efficient operation, utilization, and maintenance of buildings, properties, and equipment constituting the school plant under his/her administration.
- Provide for the improvement of curriculum by instituting procedures for evaluation of course of study, observation of the instructional program, and supervision of curriculum development procedures included within the course of study assigned to his/her organizational responsibility.
- Seek the utmost economy in the expenditures of supplies and materials, and practice careful inventory control in the use, care, and maintenance of state textbooks, instructional materials, and equipment at the school.
- Prepare and submit required records, reports, and returns in accordance with law or regulation.
- Supervise the conduct of programs established for the guidance, counseling, and testing of students, and co-curricular and extra-curricular programs established for the students.
- Foster effective public relations that will contribute to increased public interest and participation in the affairs of the schools.
- Assist the superintendent in the development of the district educational program.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Credential: A valid California Administrative Credential authorizing service at the assigned grade levels is required.
- Education: A Master’s Degree is preferred with graduate study in educational program development, school administration, and a thorough knowledge of curriculum and school personnel practices.
- Experience: Classroom and administrative experience in teaching and administration in school management and curriculum development is preferred.

- Persons performing service in this position will exert 15 to 50 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
- Persons performing service in this position classification need to perceive the nature of sound, have near and far visual acuity, depth perception, the ability to provide oral information, and the manual dexterity to operate business related equipment and handle various materials and objects.
- This type of work involves sitting, standing, walking, reaching, bending, squatting, and kneeling.
