Job Summary

Under the direction of the Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services the Reading Specialist assists the district in implementing district and school-wide reading initiatives and provides professional development and technical assistance to classroom teachers across all school sites to strengthen literacy instruction and improve student reading achievement. The Specialist supports educators in implementing strategies that align with the Science of Reading, analyzes literacy data, designs tiered instruction to meet the needs of all learners, and performs related duties as needed. This is not a supervisory position.

Requirements / Qualifications

* Valid teaching credential with Reading Specialist credential or authorization * Master's degree in Reading/Literacy Education or related field preferred * Minimum of five years of successful classroom teaching experience with demonstrated expertise in literacy instruction * Experience providing professional development or coaching to adult learners * Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills * Ability to build trusting relationships with teachers and provide supportive, non-evaluative coaching * Strong organizational and time management skills to support multiple school sites * Valid California Single Subject, Multiple Subject, or Education Specialist Teaching Credential authorizing service in the assigned teaching area.
