K-1 classroom teacher for students with mild/moderate disabilities with emphasis in the area of autism and speech/language. DESCRIPTION OF BASIC RESPONSIBILITIES: To develop the student skills, knowledge, concepts, generalizations, principles, appreciations, and attitudes that will promote fullest possible academic and physical development and assist him/her in valuing the dignity and worth of himself/herself and others. He /she provides within the classroom and educational program for the students and assists in other school programs as required by District policy. SUPERVISOR: Site Principal, Special Education Coordinator DUTIES: Teach students with autism; monitor specific educational program for each student; familiarity with current practices in instructional methodology for children with autism. Coordinate school and home programs for assigned students; refer students and parents to appropriate community resources. Participate in diagnostic activities with multi-disciplinary team; establish specialized program for each assigned child. Design and implement appropriate behavior management techniques for use in instructional and disciplinary purposes. Plan appropriate learning experiences using individual, small group and class instruction as needed. Arrange with other teachers and monitor the integration of students in regular school classrooms. Interact with parents; conduct initial interviews and conferences with parents; discuss student progress with parents on an on-going basis. Administer and monitor state and local student assessments. Plans and coordinates the work of Para-educators assigned to the classroom. Maintains professional competence through participation in in-service education activities provided by the District and self-selected professional growth activities. Works cooperatively with staff toward resolution of mutual concerns.
