SAUGUS UNION SCHOOL DISTRICT CLASS SPECIFICATION BOARD APPROVED: June 30, 2026 VISUAL AND PERFORMING ARTS COORDINATOR DEFINITION Under the general direction of the Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services or designee, provide leadership, coordination, and administrative oversight for the district’s TK-6 arts education initiative. The VAPA Coordinator is responsible for program development, curriculum alignment with California Arts Standards, and the formal supervision and evaluation of classified VAPA Specialists. Respond to the needs of elementary school sites by managing Proposition 28 compliance, district-wide VAPA supply procurement, inventory logistics, and establishing systemic frameworks for collaborative co-teaching between classified specialists and certificated classroom teachers. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES The duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. Supervise and formally evaluate assigned classified VAPA Specialists in accordance with district policies and collective bargaining agreements. ? Coach and mentor non-credentialed specialists, focusing heavily on classroom management strategies, student engagement, routines, and positive behavior interventions (PBIS). ? Design and deliver targeted professional development to build the instructional capacity of VAPA staff, ensuring lessons are developmentally appropriate for TK-6 students. ? Train VAPA Specialists on how to effectively deliver instruction and manage engagement while navigating the presence of the general education teacher in a shared space. ? Develop, implement, and monitor district-wide "Active Participation Guidelines" that clearly define the collaborative roles, boundaries, and expectations for both the Classified VAPA Specialist and the Certificated Cla

Credential/Licenses Required • Valid California Teaching Credential with elementary authorization • Valid Administrative Credential • CLAD Certification Desired Qualifications • Successful Site and/or District Level Administrative Experience • Additional training and proficiency demonstrated in the areas of English Language Development, Assessment Programs, and GATE • BCLAD Certification or written and oral proficiency in a second language
