Provides professional learning, oversight, and support for instructional programs, teaching strategies, and formative assessments that support mastery of the California Standards for ALL District students, including English Learners, Foster Youth, Homeless Youth, Migrant Youth, Students with Disabilities, and Economically Disadvantaged Youth.

THE POSITION:The Director of Curriculum and Instruction, under the supervision of the Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services, provides collaborative leadership and support for an equitable, high-quality educational program for ALL students. Provides professional learning, oversight, and support for instructional programs, teaching strategies, and formative assessments that support mastery of the California Standards for ALL District students, including English Learners, Foster Youth, Homeless Youth, Migrant Youth, Students with Disabilities, and Economically Disadvantaged Youth.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES(This list of essential functions and responsibilities is not exhaustive and may be supplemented as necessary)
  1. Analyze district, state, and federal programs for compliance and develop plans for program instrument implementation
  2. Facilitate the design, development, and implementation of support programs to ensure that technology resources are integrated into classroom instruction
  3. Oversee the District Induction program and support new teachers with curriculum and program implementation
  4. Disseminate instructional materials and resources to District schools and oversee curriculum adoptions
  5. Oversee and monitor Williams compliance, program audits, and federal program reviews
  6. Provide insight and support to site administrators regarding purchases and effective methods of employing technology within the instructional program
  7. Plan, organize, design and coordinate in-service and professional development training programs to advance the understanding and application of instructional technology approaches and application of instructional technology and other curricular areas as assigned
  8. Develop, supervise, and evaluate the District in all curricular programs, including but not limited to DLI, VAPA, Physical Education, and new math adoption
  9. Conduct an annual assessment of program areas by surveying program participants, staff, and parents to evaluate effectiveness
  10. Analyze local and state assessment data in all curricular areas and adjust programs, report cards, and create an improvement plan as necessary
  11. Work with school site Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) and support school site staff in analyzing and utilizing data to drive curriculum and instruction.
  12. Provide insight and support to site administrators regarding RTI and PLC development
  13. Coordinate district staff meetings to support all sites
  14. Conduct district committee meetings and family engagement events with staff and/or parents
  15. Plan, organize, design, and coordinate professional development
  16. Oversee and coordinate all state testing, including ELPAC, CAASPP, PFT, etc. Assist with the development of the budget for each of the assigned curricular areas
  17. Monitor contracts, purchase orders, and invoices, ensuring that purchases match the planned budget and meet the guidelines set by each of the programs and Board policy
  18. Supervise and evaluate staff
  19. Attend and prepare presentations for Board of Education meetings
  20. Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Education and Experience
  2. Appropriate California credential authorizing Administrative service or Administrative Services Certificate of Eligibility
  3. Five years of successful Teaching experience (required)
  4. Three years of successful School Site Administrator (Principal) experience (elementary preferred)
  5. Relevant experience and demonstrated leadership experience
  6. Detailed knowledge of the focus, intent, and requirements of categorical programs
  7. Working knowledge of curriculum development processes, principles of assessment design, assessment instruments, and mandated reporting procedures
  8. Knowledge of working with a multi-cultural school and community population
  9. Creative and critical thinker and listener
  10. Brings leadership, vision, and enthusiasm to the position and is committed to shared decision-making
  11. Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy
  12. Ability to work independently and follow through on assignments with minimal direction
  13. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with colleagues
  14. Other requirements
  15. Possession of a valid California Driver’s License
  16. Tuberculosis screening and clearance every four years
