DEFINITION The Instructional Aide, as a member of the core education team, works under the supervision of the vice principal and core Classroom Teacher. Day-to-day responsibilities may include: providing instructional assistance, guiding additional practice opportunities, re-teaching designated skills, and supervising students in school activities. QUALIFICATIONS • Must have 48 units of college credit or obtained an Associate degree (preferably in a related field) • Highly motivated, flexible and non-judgmental individual who is eager to learn • Interpersonal skills necessary to work cooperatively and effectively with students and adults • Experience working with children ages four to ten, and families in rural areas • Ability to read, write, and speak English; Fluent Spanish preferred • Ability to communicate effectively with students and adults of various cultural backgrounds • Able to carry out instructions, work independently, and be self-motivated MAJOR POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES • Implement school policies and procedures • Discuss assigned duties with classroom teachers in order to coordinate instructional efforts • Reinforce educational concepts to individuals or groups of students using instructional objectives and lessons developed by the classroom teacher • Tutor and assist children individually or in small groups, in order to help them master assignments and to reinforce learning concepts presented by teachers. • Demonstrate creativity, flexibility, and perseverance in dealing with challenging learning, behavioral, and classroom situations. • Provide extra assistance to students with special educational or behavioral needs • Ability to supervise students appropriately and support the District Positive Behavior Intervention and Support System
