Job Summary
Under the day-to-day supervision of the school-site administrator, the school counselor, juvenile justice is responsible for delivering a comprehensive, equity-driven school counseling program that aligns with the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) National Model’s Domains to support the academic, social-emotional, and post-secondary development of at-promise youth in a juvenile justice setting. The counselor will implement transformative social-emotional learning (TSEL) practices and provide essential transition and aftercare services that empower students as they reintegrate into their communities, whether returning to their school of residence, pursuing higher education, engaging in vocational training, entering the workforce, or enlisting in military service. This role requires the school counselor to establish trusting relationships with students, providing them with individualized guidance on course credit accumulation and graduation requirements and facilitating their academic and social-emotional growth. Build strong connections with students and offer a thorough orientation to support successful transition into the school, focusing on student well-being, academic achievement, and planning for seamless transition back into the community. The counselor will actively advocate for students' needs, ensuring their successful transition from court school programs by collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, including probation officers, mental health professionals, juvenile health services, and other community partners. Additionally, the counselor will communicate effectively with diverse educational partners to support students’ overall well-being, including students, families/caregivers, school personnel, and agency partners. EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: • A minimum of 3 years’ experience working as a credentialed school counselor. • A master's degree in school counseling and guidance or a closely related field from an institution of higher learning accredited by one of the six regional accreditation associations as recognized by the Council on Postsecondary Accreditation LICENSE OR CERTIFICATE (All applicants must attach credential with document number to their application): • Must possess and maintain a valid Pupil Personnel Services Credential (PPS) in school counseling
