The Live Oak School District was established in 1872 and currently serves approximately 1,700 students in three elementary schools, one middle school, one K-8 independent charter school, and one alternative school. The student population is 50% Hispanic, 31% White, 19% Other, 30% English learner, and 60% Socioeconomically disadvantaged.

SUMMARY
Develops, implements, and maintains a student counseling program. Schedules students for curricular program based on assessed needs. Coordinates interagency support programs. Assists in the development, implementation and evaluation of the school plan. Provides guidance to families and students related to District adopted standards for promotion. Interacts with staff related to student family needs and services.
NATURE AND SCOPE
Keen awareness of young adolescents. Work with site leadership in implementing the curricular program established for the school. Align interagency and school service providers (Teen Center/Special Education/School Resource Officer) as needed for students and families. Participate in a collaborative site office team, promoting a positive and welcoming school climate. Foster school pride and positive community relations.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
This person must be highly organized, committed to excellence in the overall school program and have sufficient successful previous working experience in a middle school to carry out the responsibilities.
ESSENTIAL TYPES OF DUTIES (Examples)
· Identifies student counseling needs.
· Conducts regular academic counseling related to District standards for promotion.
· Schedules students in accordance with the sites curricular program.
· Conducts regularly scheduled individual and small group counseling activities.
· Intervenes and seeks resolutions in student crisis situations.
· Provides direction for student’s needs and coordinates programs designed to meet the counseling needs of the school.
· Offers consultation to staff and parents and organizes, prepares and conducts parent and staff inservices relative to the counseling program, student needs, curricular schedule, and the school improvement plan.
· Provides pertinent information to parents, administrators, teachers and other staff members relative to the goals and objectives, strategies, and processes of the counseling program.
· Coordinates interagency support programs.
· Assists in the development, implementation and evaluation of the school plan.
· Collaborate with Teen Center Coordinator on related student counseling and service needs.
· Facilitate student Study Team meetings.
· Represent the site on the District’s Healthy Kids Task Force.
· Facilitate the District/State student assessment program.
· Coordinate student welcoming and positive school climate activities with the school’s Student Activities Director.
