Job Summary
Under general supervision and direction of the Court School Administrator, the Teacher will provide classroom instruction to the adolescent students in an El Dorado County Juvenile Hall facility. This position is distinguished by teaching in a self-contained classroom of adolescents who are generally in grades 7-12. The student population is comprised of general education students as well as students who receive special education related services.
Requirements / Qualifications
This job opening is located at Blue Ridge in South lake Tahoe, a locked juvenile detention facility Education: Bachelor’s degree and valid teaching credentials, or eligibility for appropriate credentials/permits. Either a Mild to Moderate Education Specialist and a Single Subject Credential or a Mild to Moderate Education Specialist and Multiple Subject Credential is required. Experience: A minimum of three (3) years’ recent experience working with alternative education or adjudicated youth is preferred. EDCOE will offer credential reimbursement for an employee assigned to Blue Ridge Court School in order to obtain his/her mild to moderate special education teaching credential. To qualify for tuition reimbursement, the incumbent most provide proof of enrollment in a qualifying program, as determined by EDCOE. Cooperate with EDCOE in the attainment of Limited Assignment Permit, if eligible and applicable. As courses are completed, incumbent most provide proof of satisfactory course completion (grade "C' equivalent or better). Incumbent must complete the coursework required for mild to moderate special education credential with TWO (2) years of the date enrollment. The newly hired employee must have at least ONE (1) single or multiple subject credential to qualify for enrollment, the enrollment amount must not exceed a total of ten-thousand dollars ($10,000.00) *OR* A qualified applicant possessing both a single/multiple subject and mild to moderate special education credential, EDCOE shall provide the newly hired teacher a signing bonus totaling an amount not to exceed $10,000.00, paid in two separate, one-time, $5,000.00 installments at the conclusion of the newly hired employee's first and second year of successful employment with EDCOE assigned as a Teacher-Court school.
