Job Description and Duties Under the general direction of the Supervisor of Academic Instruction this position will provide instruction in academic subjects to persons committed to the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. They will develop curriculum and organize materials. Plan, organize, and supervise educational activities that will enable students to progress toward achieving educational and personal growth goals. Provide materials and instruction related to the program curriculum. Provide classroom instruction, individualized study programs as needed, and individual academic/vocational counseling. Prepare a course of study and daily lesson plans in accordance with the program curriculum needs. Assist students in setting and meeting education and parole goals as required by course goals and Pre-Release program policy and curriculum. Maintain attendance records, grades, and Work Incentive Program records. Maintain a working knowledge of education and institutional policies and procedures. Evaluate new materials and teaching techniques. Attend all training, meetings, and seminars as needed or required. Maintain the required credential. Performs other related duties.
Requirements / Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications Teacher All applicants must possess a valid California Teaching Credential issued by the Commission on Teacher Credentialing. Applicants who do not possess the required credential or one of equivalent authorization may take the examinations but must have on file with the Commission on Teacher Credentialing an application for an appropriate credential. At the time of application for the examination, applicants must present written verification that the appropriate listed credential or its' equivalent is being processed or will be authorized. No appointments will be made to permanent positions with an Emergency Credential. After issuance, the credential is the responsibility of the holder and must be maintained by completion of any Commission on Teacher Credentialing requirements.
High School-General Education Possession of: 1. A Single Subject Credential or a Multiple Subject Credential. or 2. A Standard Secondary Credential with a major or minor in an academic subject area. or 3. A General Secondary Credential.

San Quentin Rehab Center is California’s oldest and best-known correctional institution, which was established on the site currently known as Point San Quentin, in July of 1852, as an answer to the rampant lawlessness in California at the time. The prison rests overlooking the bay on 432 acres and is located just 12 miles north of the Golden Gate Bridge in the county of Marin. The walled prison is made up of four (4) large cell blocks (West, South, North, and East Block), one (1) maximum security cell block (the Adjustment Center), Central Health Care Service Building, a medium security dorm setting and a minimum-security firehouse.
