Job Description and Duties This advertisement is for Teacher (High School - Physical Education) positions located at Sierra Conservation Center in Jamestown, Tuolumne County. Under the general supervision of the Supervisor of Correctional Education Program (SCEP) and the direct supervision of the Supervisor of Academic Instruction (SAI), the Physical Education Teacher (coach) shall work closely with institution staff and inmates in developing and implementing a recreation program to meet institutional and inmate needs and in evaluating the program's effectiveness. This position provides planning, organization, and supervision of the Recreation/Physical Education Program of the Institution. The teacher shall develop a course outline for the program, including specific recreational activities that the inmates may engage in on a monthly basis. The major portion of the teacher’s time shall be devoted to individual and group instruction of inmates. This instruction shall cover a wide variety of recreational rules and regulations. The teacher shall give instruction to small and large groups while supervising inmate activities in the gymnasium or in the outdoor recreational area. The teacher will establish realistic goals/activities based on inmate needs/interests using inmate input. The goal is self-directed learning of the inmate. The teacher's tasks include planning, assigning, and supervising work; maintaining control and discipline; controlling all material and equipment; preparing instruction; participating in program evaluations; preventing escapes and injury by inmates to themselves or others or to property; inspecting premises and searching student
Requirements / Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications Teacher All applicants must possess a valid California Teaching Credential issued by the Commission on Teacher Credentialing. Applicants who do not possess the required credential or one of equivalent authorization may take the examinations but must have on file with the Commission on Teacher Credentialing an application for an appropriate credential. At the time of application for the examination, applicants must present written verification that the appropriate listed credential or its' equivalent is being processed or will be authorized.
Possession of Minimum Qualifications will be verified prior to interview and/or appointment. If you are meeting Minimum Qualifications with education, you must include your unofficial transcripts/diploma for verification. Official transcripts may be required upon appointment. If it is determined an applicant does not meet the Minimum Qualifications, the candidate will be withheld from the eligibility list, rendering them inactive and ineligible to be hired for the position. Candidates who have been withheld may file an appeal with the State Personnel Board.
