SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGIST
GENERAL:
The School Psychologist conducts tests, interviews and other activities generally associated with the position.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTIES:
- 1. Assesses students for special programs.
- 2. Counsels with students, staff and parents, as necessary, to meet the needs of given students.
- 3. Assists with planning for the development of new programs and the improvement of existing programs.
- 4. Assists the committees concerned with the admission and withdrawal of pupils to and from special programs.
- 5. Assists the building principals with the supervision of special education personnel.
- 6. Assists with acquainting certificated staff with the needs of children in special education programs; facilitates the contact of these children with regular programs.
- 7. Provides academic assessment as required.
- 8. Engages in research and information-gathering projects.
- 9. Interprets to parents and community the role of the School Psychologist.
10. Assists with articulation between the schools and other youth agencies.
11. Identifies exceptional children and assists in the development of suitable programs for them.
12. Acts as a member of IEP teams.
13. Writes complete reports on each pupil tested and maintains a file for each.
14. Remains current in professional and legal areas.
15. Participates in faculty inservice, community and other meetings as required.
16. Writes goals and performance objectives as required by the assignment.
17. Participates in other duties appropriate to the position (e.g., IEP committee and Board of Education meetings).
18. Performs other duties as assigned.
